Kids Notice Everything

This morning Gemma and I were reading the little photo book of our trip to China when we adopted Edie. We flipped through the pages pointing at various people, and came to a page showing Chris, Edie and me arriving at Logan on our return. Gemma exclaims "Maaa!!" excitedly, which is how she says "Sam." I say "No, no, Gemma that's Edie, and Mama and Papa. No Sam." She shakes her head vigorously no, no, then says "Maaa!" again and points to Sam's red backpack (which was at the corner of the picture). Yes, the same backpack Sam uses today. Why can't I be so attentive??
