Down by the bay....

As most of you know, Chris and I bought a vacation home on Cape Cod in May. The location is in fact down by the bay - more specifically, the Cotuit Bay. Chris was the motivating force to buy a second home, and he was happy (relieved?) that I fell in love with this particular house almost instantly. It is rambling and eclectic, with little nooks and hiding places everywhere. It also has a lovely view of the harbor, with the comings and goings of wooden sailbots and little fishing vessels displayed from every room in the house. There are lots of interesting things about the house. For one, it was known as "the Caboose" by its previous owners. We're not entirely sure we understand why, but hope to be enlightened by a helpful neighbor. The house was built in stages between the 1880s and 1960, when the last large addition was made. One of the older rooms has a ceiling made from part of a ship's hull that washed ashore on a nearby beach in the early 1900s. As an older house, we will have our work cut out for us, but we have already made lots of progress and we are open for visitors!
